Toronto Humane Society - Glenn Gould's Legacy in the wrong hands!!

I hate human beings. Not all of them. But most of them, for sure. Today, I read about the arrests made at the Toronto Humane Society - the Globe and Mail reports that "
Shelter's president, chief veterinarian and three others face criminal charges after Globe and Mail investigation uncovered widespread problems; board of directors also charged with provincial offence of cruelty to animals. " CBC states that "
Five senior Toronto Humane Society officials, including president Tim Trow, and the board of directors were charged with cruelty to animals after a raid Thursday.

Around 3 p.m., the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, with the help of Toronto police, raided the Toronto group's 11 River St. location."

Almost everyone I know in Toronto is just totally shocked - emails from friends who have supported the organization, who have adopted animals from the Humane Society's River Street premises, people who bought their calenders and merchandise. What is even worse is the extent of abuse and cruelty that is coming to light - the story in Canada's National Post Newspaper reports

Much has been made about the fact that Glenn Gould left half his estate to the Toronto Humane Society - the THS themselves brag about this in one past :

"
It’s been 25 years since renowned pianist Glenn Gould passed away. Gould, a lifelong animal lover and passionate defender of animal welfare, left the THS a legacy that has helped fund such major endeavors as our four off-leash dog parks. So it is fitting that in this, the Year of Glenn Gould, we celebrate his life, and thank him once again for helping us speak for animals that can’t speak for themselves. Gould grew up with the love of a dog, Buddy. And
while he didn’t have the time in his hectic career to have companion animals, he always had a spot in his heart for agencies that cared for abused and abandoned dogs. And he made sure that sentiment carried on in his name at the Toronto Humane Society. From the plaque at the front of the shelter to the dog parks at the back – and everywhere in between – Glenn Gould has had a profound impact on the Toronto Humane Society. And we are forever thankful."

Yes. So thankful that they treat the animals in their care like shit, like all the scumbags who abuse animals in the first place. So thankful that they squander the royalties Gould's albums still generate on the likes of that insult to humantiy, Tim Trow. I have often said it's just as well Glenn Gould died when he did - because while he would certainly laugh at some of the fuss that is made in his name now, and some of the truly bizarre things that have come out in his honour, he would be horrified that the animals he wanted to help and protect are the ones who have been let down by these filthy people.

Words are insufficient to express my disgust. I'm sure there is more to it than meets the eye (as in why the Ontario SPCA waited so long to arrest, or how the Toronto Humane Society got away with this insanity for so long) but the sense of anger and outrage I feel at these people has impaired my ability to say or write anything further. I feel like telling people to not buy any Gould recordings - but then the Red Cross (the other beneficiary) would miss out. Poor animals, at least they have some chance of being rescued or being sent to a better place in peace. I hate human beings.
